Why is everyone whining about the new cigarette tax hike as harmful to the poor? If smoking didn’t keep them poor to begin with, it surely will now ... or they may quit smoking and spend that $200 to $400 on something else, such as food, rent, their kids.
Think it’s not any of my business? Who do you think pays for all the emergency room visits to treat the poor folks who come in with asthma, bronchitis, gum disease and blocked circulation related to smoking? The public does.
The tax is but a token.
