One of our goals at the Senior Center is to bring state and county resources closer to home for Boulder City. Those who frequent the center know about Senior Law, Medicare assistance, Social Security and various support groups, to name a few.
One brand new resource that we cannot physically bring into Boulder City but that is available to our residents is the brand new Adult Day Care Center of Henderson. I recently had the opportunity to tour this facility and believe that it is going to become a vital asset to families or individuals caring for an aging spouse or parent.
The mission of the center meshes with our own mission of helping seniors to live independent lives. Their mission is to "Change your life, not where you live."
The staff specializes in the care of patients with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and the range of chronic conditions that impact seniors. Participants who are incontinent, nonverbal, unable to ambulate or feed themselves are provided assistance.
The Adult Day Care Center offers nursing care, assistance with activities of daily living and recreation designed to provide mental stimulation, exercise and fun. They encourage participants to maintain as much independence as possible while assisting them when necessary.
The opening of this new facility will help allow family members to work during the day or take respite time for personal or business needs, ultimately assisting caregivers to keep the senior in the home. It is right over the hill at 1201 Nevada State Drive. I know there are many who will benefit from this new resource and I encourage you to call 368-2273 for additional information.
Welcome back
Last week our Farmers Market reopened for the season. Joining our good friends Dave, Donna and Connie from California is Boulder City's own Diane Greene. Diane is known for the great herbs that she grows and she is now an approved vendor for the State of Nevada Senior Farmers Market coupon program.
We are thankful to have our farmers back offering fresh and healthy produce. The Farmers Market is every Friday from 8 a.m.-noon.
Yard sale coming
We need your help! Please stop by and support the Senior Center Yard Sale on April 10 and 11. We have some great items at very reasonable prices. We are still trying to defray the huge, unexpected expense of replacing our commercial water heater. Your support of a purchase at the yard sale or any donation will be greatly appreciated. Look forward to seeing you here!
