Letter to the editor:

We’re too dependent on energy corporations

Why all this discussion of creating an Earth-friendly energy grid, the centralized generation of electrical power via solar panel farms, windmill farms or any other centralized power generating system? All this does is put the control of electricity into the hands of greedy corporate masters.

We the people will never be free as long as the corporations have this kind of control over our lives. As long as they control the energy, they will always find excuses for why they need to raise rates, in the never-ending quest to increase profits for their stockholders.

Instead we should encourage the development of on-site electrical generation, in which every home can generate its own electrical power, eliminating our enslavement to large power companies. There are technologies that can accomplish this, such as fuel cells. A fuel cell electricity generating system the size of a refrigerator, which can power an entire home, is only one of many viable possibilities.

Self-sufficiency should always be our goal. That’s what this country was founded on. If we don’t follow this path, we will forever be slaves to the utilities.
