Gefilte fish can be fun

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad

Dan King

Oy. What would their mothers say?

Led by comedian Susannah Perlman, Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad is like a song-and-dance-variety-show-burlesque demolition of Jewish stereotypes. Featuring a rotating troupe of talented female comics and performers, NJGGB draws its strength from the ebullient Perlman, who’s appeared on two seasons of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and produced a comedy tour last year called “The Obama Girls of Comedy,” which traveled to battleground states to get the word out to female voters. (On her MySpace page is a song extolling “Oprah 4 Prez”—“Life can be a book club from sea to shining sea.”)

Calendar

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad
April 12, 8 p.m., $10-$15.
Beauty Bar, 598-1965.

NJGGB comically solves some of the mysteries of Judaism—like what’s in the middle of gefilte fish—and jokingly celebrates hamantaschen, triangle-shaped pastries. If you don’t know what any of that is, don’t worry. I didn’t, either. But this is certain: You’ll never hear a Britney Spears song in Hebrew anywhere else.
