Motorcyclist dies after collision with SUV

Motorcyclist killed

A 21-year-old motorcyclist died this afternoon after colliding with an SUV shortly after noon today in eastern Las Vegas.

The man, who has not been identified pending notification of relatives, was transported to Sunrise Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel, according to Metro Police.

The accident happened at 12:11 p.m. on Sandhill Road north of Desert Inn Road, officers said.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the accident occurred as Mabel Arman, 44, Las Vegas, was driving a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo SUV north on Sandhill Road, in the left two-way turning lane north of Desert Inn Road, while the motorcycle, a 2007 Kawasaki, was headed south on Sandhill Road, in the left travel lane, police said.

Officers said the SUV attempted to turn left into the Plaza Desert Inn parking lot, in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, who lost control and slid into the right side of the SUV, was ejected and came to rest in the right southbond travel lane of Sandhill Road, police said.

Metro Police said this is the 22nd traffic-related fatality this year in their jurisdiction.
