Woman killed in hit and run accident

Hit and run fatality accident

A woman was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck late Saturday night as she was trying to cross six lanes of traffic on Lake Mead Boulevard in Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.

The woman was pronounced dead by responding medical personnel, officers said. Police said they have not yet released the identity of the woman until her relatives can be notified.

The accident occurred at 10:04 p.m. Saturday on Lake Mead Boulevard west of Nellis Boulevard, police said.

Officers said evidence at the scene indicated a possible dark Ford pickup truck was traveling east on Lake Mead Boulevard in the right lane of three travel lanes when the accident occurred.

The woman was crossing Lake Mead Boulevard from south to north outside of any crosswalk, when she entered the path of the truck, police said.

The truck was unable to stop and struck her, then fled east from the scene, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the pickup truck or driver or about the accident to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or Det. T. Hughes at 702-828-3538.

The accident is the 23rd fatality so far this year in Metro Police's jurisdiction.
