ATV rider in critical condition after crash

A 19-year-old woman from Irvine, Calif., remains in extremely critical condition after she and the driver of an all-terrain vehicle were thrown from the ATV at about 9:47 p.m. Saturday, Metro Police said.

The crash occurred on Pioneer Road as the ATV traveled south just south of Mills Street, police said. The 2004 Honda TRX 450 R ATV veered westbound and left the roadway, traveling down an embankment when the driver, identified by police as 24-year-old Robert Wollenzien of South Jordan, Utah, and passenger Lindsey Muir were ejected, police said.

Muir was taken to University Medical Center's Trauma Unit by Flight for Life with life-threatening injuries, police said. Wollenzien was also taken to UMC Trauma with serious injuries, police said.

The Metro Police Accident Investigation Section continues to investigate the single-vehicle crash.
