Letter to the editor:

GOP’s mouthpiece roars to little avail

I feel the need to inject some facts into the recent argument over Fox News Channel.

Fact: Fox News has been known to be exclusively supportive of the conservative Republican agenda for years. That is why Republicans defend that network and are hired as commentators. To call its talking heads “opinion journalists” is an oxymoron. Journalists report facts. Commentators give opinion.

Fact: The commentators on Fox are presented in a news format, which is deceptive.

Fact: Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox, is a lifelong conservative who has used his worldwide media empire to spread his personal message.

Fact: According to the Nielsen ratings, more people watch something other than Fox to get their news. This tells you where the majority of public opinion rests.

People are beginning to reject the Republican view that we should give the richest people more tax breaks, work for the well being of the corporations, trash the planet for profit, look at labor unions as evil, call torture patriotic, start wars to gain influence, be the bully in the schoolyard and swallow the “fear” pill.

You want traditional values? How about a living wage for an honest day’s work? How about helping our fellow man? How about personal freedom?

Republicans are poised to win back Congress? Hardly. We have majority rule now, and we will keep it.
