Death investigation

A man who was shot and killed at his home on Tuesday afternoon in the northeastern Las Vegas Valley may have interrupted a thief stealing his wife's car, Metro Police said.

The man's wife returned to their home in the 4300 block of Sunrise Avenue, near the intersection of Charleston and Lamb boulevards, and found her husband with a gunshot wound to the head, Lt. Lew Roberts said.

At least one child was home at the time of the shooting, which happened at about 12:30 p.m., Roberts said.

Police don't have a motive for the slaying, but the death could have resulted from a thief attempting to steal a car belonging to the man's wife, said Officer Barbara Morgan.

Police are looking for the victim's car -- a blue 1987 Chevrolet Caprice with 24-inch rims -- which they said was driven from the scene at a high rate of speed by a man they are calling a suspect.

The car is light blue on the bottom and dark blue on top and has temporary, paper tags, police said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Metro Police Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
