BCHS Class of 1979 to host reunion

Boulder City High School's class of 1979 will host its 30-year reunion July 3 and 4 in Boulder City.

Classmates are invited to meet July 3 at 5 p.m. in Boulder Dam Brewing Co., 453 Nevada Way.

Letter Carrier food drive set for May 9

The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is May 9.

Residents can place plastic bags of non-perishable food, like soup, peanut butter, rice, beans or vegetables near their mailboxes.

Paper goods like toilet tissue and diapers are also needed.

The collected items are distributed between 20 agencies such as the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and other churches.

Museum talk to focus on CCC

The Boulder City Museum and Historical Association's Third Thursday talk April 16 at 6 p.m. will focus on the Civilian Conservation Corps.

In Southern Nevada during the Great Depression, the CCC worked at Lake Mead.

Shirley Johnston, an instructor at the College of Southern Nevada who is a doctoral student at University of Nevada Las Vegas, will speak.

Rotary to host polio fundraiser

The Sunrise Rotary Club will host "The Polio Shoot" April 17 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. at the Desert Lake Shooting Club, 12801 US 95.

The barbecue, wine-tasting and clay shooting event will also feature self-defense and handgun practice provided by Boulder City Police Department.

The cost is $125 per person or $200 per couple.

The event will benefit Rotary's worldwide effort to eradicate polio.

Police helping Special Olympics

Boulder City Police Department's Third Annual Golf Tournament will be April 18 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Boulder Creek Golf Club, 1501 Veterans Memorial Drive.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., and tickets are $100 for an individual, which includes a golf cart and lunch. Other sponsorship packages are available.

The event will benefit Special Olympics Nevada. For more information or to make advance reservations, call Officer Robert Woolsey at 293-9224.

Boulder City Police officers will also be "celebrity waiters" April 16 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Claim Jumper, 301 N. Green Valley Parkway.

Fifth graders to hold annual reenactment

Fifth grade students at Martha P. King Elementary School will participate in the 23rd annual Civil War Reenactment April 17 at 9:30 a.m. on the Boulder City High School football field, 1101 Fifth St.

Students portray Union and Confederate soldiers, engaging in water balloon fights which represent several battles of the Civil War. They also act out the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
