One of our goals at the Senior Center is to bring state and county resources closer to home for Boulder City. Those who frequent the center know about senior law, Medicare assistance, Social Security and various support groups.
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and let me say that we truly appreciate everything that our volunteers do for the Senior Center. The number of volunteers it takes to keep things running smoothly is astounding. Every month more than 75 volunteers supplement the work of paid staff by contributing more than 1,200 hours. Needless to say, if we had to pay for their services we would be in big trouble! Last weekend a group of dedicated volunteers organized and manned our yard sale. They sorted, priced, and displayed thousands of items for this big event. Then they braved the breezes and sprinkles on Friday and Saturday to make the sale a success. I would like to offer a great big thank you to all who participated.
Massage therapist visiting
In an article a few weeks ago I had urged people with talents to share them with SCBC. Well, we were fortunate to have a licensed massage therapist, Louise, offer to come into the center and provide either chair or hand massages. She held her first session last week and there were rave reviews. Louise is scheduled to come in twice a month with her next date being April 24. Services are provided on a first come, first serve basis on the mornings she is here — just sign-up at the front desk.
Thirst for knowledge
Next April 22, Dr. Tad Tenney will be presenting a discussion on drinking water and its impact on health. We often pick up a glass of water without any thought to what we are really drinking. Tenney provides some interesting information and facts about water which may make you think about the next glass you drink. This presentation will be 11:15 a.m. in the Community Room. Come in and learn something.
