Fire destroys vacant house in northwest valley

House fire

Las Vegas firefighters arrived at a vacant house in the northwestern Las Vegas Valley today to find heavy smoke pouring out of it.

Numerous callers alerted the fire department to the blaze at 886 Miller Ave., near East Carey Avenue and North Martin Luther King Boulevard, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for the Las Vegas Fire Department.

The fire broke out at 4:57 p.m., Szymanski said.

Fire investigators said the house has been vacant for some time and that it appeared people were trying to enter the house, Szymanski said.

Damage is estimated at $50,000. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
