A famous Republican president, Theodore Roosevelt, said, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” There have been much speculation and insinuations that President Barack Obama would back down in the face of adversity.
The recent incident involving the ship Maersk Alabama has shown that our president does indeed speak softly (by first trying to reason with the pirates), but then uses the big stick (when the pirates indicated that they would kill the captain of that ship). I hope this incident ends the accusations that our president is gutless. He once again has shown that he is truly a leader America can be proud of.
