Garrold Atkin

Garrold E. Atkin, 78, of Gilbert, Ariz., died April 13.

A former bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Henderson's Second Ward, Atkin moved to Henderson after serving in the Army and found work at the U.S. Lime Division of the Flintkote Co. bagging lime. He learned every aspect of the hydrated lime business and worked for the company for 50 years, retiring as human resources manager. He excelled in labor and arbitration practices, contract negotiations, plant safety regulations, personnel management and other responsibilities.

He was born June 26, 1930, in Santa Monica, Calif., and attended Dixie High School in St. George, Utah. He pursued a singing career at NBC Studios in California after graduation. He married Aileen Witt in 1949, and they had three sons and two daughters during their 32-year marriage.

In 1983, Atkin married Diane McGhie, with whom he had a daughter and a son, and they celebrated their 25th anniversary recently.

He was an avid rockhound and enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and traveling. With his easy-going manner, he was known for calming the waters and putting out fires, his family said. In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by children Gary Atkin, Keith Atkin, Janet Scarlett, Dorothy Fullerton, Don Atkin, Rachel Peterson and Jeremy Atkin, sister Colleen Bartlett, 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Fieldson and brother Rudy Iverson.

The family asks that memorial gifts be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Services were held April 18 in Gilbert, Ariz.

Sarah Elizabeth Forrester, 81, of Emmett, Idaho, died April 14 at a local care center in Emmett.

Forrester was born on July 9, 1927, at Vonore, Tenn., to L.C. and Dede Hicks Howard. She was reared and educated at Madison, Tenn.

She married John Forrester on July 23, 1945, at Chatsworth, Ga. They lived in Madisonville, Tenn., for a year, then moved to the Stibnite, Idaho, area where they resided until 1952. They lived at Yellow Pine and Grandview before moving to Boulder City in 1953. In 1986, they moved to Emmett, where they have since resided.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Farrell (Marrietta) Forrester and Jim Forrester, both of Henderson, John Forrester Jr. of Emmett and Ed (Gillian) Forrester of Boulder City; a daughter, Sheryl (Terry) Brennan of Emmett; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one sister.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Emmett Rehab and Health Care in Emmett for the wonderful care they provided for Forrester. Memorials may be made to Emmett Rehab and Health Care, 714 N. Butte, Emmett, Idaho 83617.

Services were April 17. Potter Chapel handled the arrangements.

Dora Jaramillo

Aurora "Dora" Jaramillo, 94, died April 21 at a local care facility.

A Henderson resident since 1950, she was born in Las Vegas, N.M., Dec. 19, 1914, and was a retired practical nurse.

She was active in the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church altar guild.

She is survived by her children Joe N. Jaramillo Jr. of Henderson and Louis Jaramillo of Las Vegas, N.M.; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

A Rosary will be said 6 p.m. April 27 at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, with a memorial service at 10 a.m. April 28 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Interment will be at Palm Mortuary-Henderson.

The family requests memorial donations go to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
