Letter to the editor:

Leaderless GOP a band of critics

Ne’er-do-well members of the Republican Party such as Newt Gingrich and John Boehner made a large to-do over President Barack Obama’s nod of the head toward the Saudi king during their visit.

Oh, it is such a travesty! The president bowed to the Saudi king! Where was their outrage when former (thank goodness) President George W. Bush held the hand of the Saudi king as they walked together, and kissed the Saudi king (twice) during his visit of obeisance in 2007?

I guess Ronald Reagan’s gestures of friendship toward Mikhail Gorbachev and Richard Nixon’s arm cradling of Soviet Union Premier Nikita Khrushchev were OK. After all, they were Republican presidents and, evidently, could do no wrong.

One has to refer to the Republican politicians of today as “members” of the GOP because none deserves the title of “leader.”

Our current president is light years ahead of any member of the previous administration. President Obama’s intelligence and ability make him a beacon of light in today’s world. Every U.S. citizen should be grateful and proud to have such a man at the helm of our country.
