Letter to the editor:

U.S. disclosures will not impress jihadist

With good reason, Sen. John McCain hates what he perceives as U.S. torturing of enemy prisoners of war.

I like, respect and voted for John McCain, and it’s easy to see where he’s coming from. He was tortured unmercifully while a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

However, the Obama administration’s release of the list of our so-called torture techniques isn’t suddenly going to make other countries like us.

A respected American general, former CIA Director Michael Hayden, said Sunday on a TV news program that the release of the documents would make America less safe. Now, any future terrorist prisoners know how they will not be interrogated to get them to talk, and they can prepare for it.

Jihadist thugs who would not hesitate a second to cut off our heads are not going to be impressed. The only thing they respect is our power. But now they will view us as weak.
