A 55-year-old Las Vegas man suffered fatal injuries Friday night when his motorcycle was involved in a three-vehicle collision, according to Metro police.

The motorcyclist has not been identified pending notification of relatives, police said. The accident occurred at 9:09 p.m. on Valley View Boulevard at San Joaquin Avenue, police said.

Officers said evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated that the motorcyclist, who was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson FLHT, and a 2000 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Roger Himelrick, 58, Las Vegas, were both traveling north on Valley View Boulevard when the accident happened.

Police said the motorcyclst entered the center turn lane and made a left turn across Valley View, in front of a 1993 Acura Legend, which was going south on Valley View.

Police said the Acura, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, hit the front of the motorcycle, ejecting the rider.

Debris from the motorcycle hit the front of the pickup truck driven by Himelrick, who was not injured, police said.

After the Acura stopped, the driver left his car and fled from the area on foot, police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to University Medical Center Trauma, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel, police said.

Police are asking for anyone who saw the collision or who has information on the driver of the Acura, to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Detective Dennis Magill at 828-3317.

The accident was the 29th traffic fatality in Las Vegas this year.
