Letter to the Editor:

Banks could become examples of socialism

I continue to be shocked and dismayed by the ignorance and apathy of the majority of American people.

Last week it was reported the administration may change its non-voting stock interest in banks, gained through money lent by the Troubled Assets Relief Program, to a voting stock interest. Where is the public discussion?

This action would be the very definition of socialism. Where in history has socialism helped improve the living standard of the common man?

Government should be working on weeding out corruption in these banks, not becoming the bank itself. Next, if the same thing happens to the auto industry, I suppose government officials will fly around in its jets telling us what type and colors of cars we are required to drive and, then, what kind of food we are allowed to eat.

This is not part of the solution to our economic woes; this is a power grab, plain and simple.
