Motorcyclist killed in collision on mountain road

Fatal collision

A 34-year-old Las Vegas motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon on a mountain road west of the Las Vegas Valley, Metro Police said.

The motorcycle collided with a 1997 Land Rover driven by 36-year-old Raul Martin, who wasn't injured, police said. The motorcyclist, who was riding a 2001 Honda XR, has not been identified, police said.

Both vehicles were off the pavement on Lovell Summit Road at 4:04 p.m. Sunday about two miles southeast of Trout Canyon Road. That stretch of road is dirt with a hill and a curve, police said.

The Honda was traveling east on Lovell Summit Road as both vehicles approached the curve, police said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene west of Las Vegas in the Spring Mountains by responding emergency medical crews, police said.

This is the 30th fatality in Metro Police jurisdiction this year. The collision remains under investigation by the Metro Police Accident Investigation Detail.
