Letter to the editor:

Torture by any other name is still torture

It amazes me that Sen. John Ensign maintains that the United States does not torture prisoners, despite the widely disseminated information to the contrary. His justification is that we employed “advanced interrogation techniques,” which, by definition, are not torture.

If we relabeled taxing wealthy Americans as “wealth reallocation,” would that satisfy Ensign and the Republicans’ position of no new taxes?

You do know that, just because the previous administration thought up new names for ways around the law and the Constitution, it didn’t fool everybody. The past election proved that.
