Boulder City in brief

Flag retirement ceremony scheduled

The annual retiring of unserviceable American flags will be at 10 a.m. May 9 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Boulder City.

The Valley of Fire Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is presenting the 17th annual ceremony, which respectfully burns worn flags following protocol laid out in the United States Flag Code.

Anyone who wishes to bring an unserviceable flag — one that is torn, frayed, dirty or otherwise unsuitable for display — for proper retirement may bring one to the ceremony or take one in advance to the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., or the Boulder City Fire Department, 1101 Elm St.

Local and state dignitaries will be in attendance, as well as the various chapter members of Daughters of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and members of Children of the American Revolution.
