Letter to the editor:

Republicans acting as if without thought

I cannot rest until I comment on one the most ridiculous statements recently made by a member of the Republican Party. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said the following:

“I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. And I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.”

MSNBC newscaster Tamron Hall pointed out that the swine flu outbreak was, in fact, in 1976 under a Republican president, Gerald Ford. I suggest Ms. Bachmann contact her partner in defiance, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and ask her why she played a significant role in stripping pandemic preparedness from the stimulus package.

What is happening to members of the Republican Party? It is as though they are in a stupor and lacking plain intelligence. What next?
