Home News to revamp papers, expand Web coverage

Greenspun Media Group has announced plans to revamp the print edition of the Home News group of weekly newspapers while at the same time dramatically expanding its commitment to online media through its LasVegasSun.com website.

Beginning March 5, the printed edition of the Home News will focus exclusively on Henderson and Boulder City — communities it has served for more than 50 years. The newspaper group will continue to publish community editions for Green Valley, Henderson, South Valley and Boulder City. The papers will also expand their distribution to include 25,000 additional households throughout the city of Henderson.

In the Summerlin and Silverado neighborhoods, the company will no longer print a weekly newspaper, but will substantially increase the community news and information available online at LasVegasSun.com.

Dramatically enhanced in 2008, LasVegasSun.com already delivers a full menu of community news, sports, videos, area listings and jobs information. The site is designed to provide breaking news throughout the day, as well as enhance the in-depth reporting found in the daily Las Vegas Sun newspaper. Plans are being implemented to provide more detailed neighborhood-level news on important topics like business, crime and real estate.

High-definition video interviews and mini-documentaries, high-resolution photo/audio slideshows, 360-degree audio/visual panoramas and interactive flash graphics are used to deliver a broad range of other features on topics such as local history and culture.

"Obviously, there's no limit to what we can provide online and when we can provide it," said Bruce Spotleson, group publisher for Greenspun Media Group. "The talented team we have assembled is perfectly poised to deliver news the way many modern readers now prefer it. Readers will see the cutting edge of interactive media when they go to our Web site."

Spotleson noted that the "immediacy" of news has become more critical in recent years, and that this need is best served on the Web. He said he trusts readers will begin to use the LasVegasSun.com for their news needs.

"We know many of our Summerlin and Silverado readers may be disappointed by the loss of their weekly print edition," Spotleson said. "But we also know that more than 70 percent of the households in our valley are accessing the Internet via a home computer. With that in mind, we intend to more than make up for it with our Web site."
