Metro Police detectives from the police department's sexual assault section have arrested a Las Vegas couple for about 30 counts each of incestuous sexual assault.
Detectives on Monday night arrested a 48-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man. The man is the stepfather of the child victims, police said.
The arrests were made after an investigation that began earlier this month, police said. One of the couple's children revealed that the child had been the victim of various forms of incestuous sexual assault for about the past 12 years, police said.
Before these arrests, the couple had no known criminal record, police said.
About 72 percent of all sexual assaults are committed against family members, police said. Up to 80 percent of such assaults are committed by either family members or other acquaintances of the victims, police said.
At this time there is no indication that the suspects in this case victimized anyone other than their own children, police said.
The police investigation is ongoing.
Charges include sexual assault, sexual assault with a victim under 16, under 15 and under 14 years of age and bail amounts for each count range from $10,000 to $15,000.
