Shooting
A Metro Police officer fired a weapon at a man Sunday morning who allegedly turned to officers with a handgun in the northwest valley, authorities said this morning.
Police responded at 1:37 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots being fired in the 3200 block of Arlene Way, which is near the intersection of Rancho Drive and Cheyenne Avenue. Officers saw a man discharge a handgun into the air in a courtyard area of 3225 Arlene Way, police said.
Officers exited their patrol vehicle and confronted the man, who allegedly turned toward the officers with a handgun. One of the officers then fired a shot, missing the man.
The man was arrested without incident a short time later while hiding in a trash bin at 5400 West Cheyenne, police said. The man hasn't been positively identified.
He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and booked in connection with discharging a firearm in a public place.
Metro is investigating the shooting by the officer and expected to release additional details at a later time. Per department policy, the identity of the officer will be released about 48 hours after the shooting.
