A man allegedly behind the wheel of a pickup truck that ran a red light before crashing into a car driven by a 24-year-old woman, killing her, will stand trial in Clark County District Court.

Kevin Miranda, 18, was indicted this week by a Clark County grand jury on a charge of driving under the influence causing death or substantial bodily harm in connection with the Nov. 29, 2009, crash that left Angela Nichole Peterson dead.

The Clark County coroner’s office said Peterson died from traumatic injuries suffered in the wreck.

Police said Miranda was driving a pickup truck that collided with Peterson’s Pontiac Sunfire at 1:13 a.m. at the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Miranda is set to be arraigned March 1 in front of Judge Douglas Smith. A preliminary hearing date of Feb. 25 was vacated.

Miranda has been free on house arrest after posting $25,000 bail. He has been required to wear a SCRAM device, which is a bracelet that monitors alcohol consumption.

Authorities said Miranda’s blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash was 0.18, which is more than twice the legal limit for adults of drinking age.

Miranda reportedly told police he had consumed "four shots of Jack Daniels" before getting behind the wheel and that he had run a red light at Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard South before reaching Rainbow.

Miranda’s attorney, Dan Winder, appeared on his client’s behalf today when the grand jury return was unsealed.

“He’s innocent until proven guilty,” Winder said. “It’s a very sad situation for everyone involved.”
