Metro Police say shooting was gang-related

Teen girl shot

A 17-year-old girl was taken to Sunrise Hospital in critical condition Friday night after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in a gang-related shooting, Metro Police said.

Lt. Dan McGrath said officers received a call of a shooting about 8:45 p.m. in the 2900 block of Beaconfalls Way in the northeast valley.

He said the teen, whose name was not released, was with two male juveniles at the time of the shooting. They tried to drive the girl to the hospital before flagging down a patrol car, McGrath said.

It is unknown if the girl was at a house party, standing in the street or sitting in a car when the shooting occurred, police said.

Authorities were interviewing witnesses but said the two males with the girl have not been forthcoming with details.

Metro’s gang unit and homicide detectives were at the scene investigating.
