Fire location

Two people suffered minor injuries after fire forced residents of an adult care home to evacuate this morning west of downtown Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded at 8:33 a.m. to the home at 2007 Alta Drive, which is just north of University Medical Center. Smoke and flames were showing on the outside of the home as firefighters arrived, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

Investigators said the fire appeared to have started outside the home and made its way into one room, where it was extinguished by automatic fire sprinklers.

The adult care home was evacuated and two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Szymanski said. No one was transported to a hospital.

Damage was estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
