Car crashes into hole

A 74-year-old woman was injured Friday night when she drove into a large hole at the intersection of Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road apparently caused by a water-main break, Metro Police said.

The woman was headed north on Nellis about 5:45 p.m. when she drove into the hole, which was large enough to fit an entire vehicle, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said.

She was taken to Sunrise Hospital with minor injures, he said.

The car was three-quarters embedded into the street, McGrath said. The hole was apparently the result of a water-main break, he said.

Las Vegas Valley Water District officials were on the scene. McGrath said the hole had doubled in size within a couple hours of the crash.

The intersection has been closed down and it is not known when it will reopen, McGrath said. He advised motorists to stay clear of the area.
