If You Go

  • Water Park Admission: $10 per day for adults, $5 per day for seniors and children ages 5 to 12, free for ages 4 and younger
  • Pool Fees: $1 per day for youth 3 to 17 years, $1.50 per day for adults 18 to 49, $1 per day for seniors, free for ages 3 and younger.

It wasn’t the hottest day of the year, but people still rushed to cool off with a swim Saturday at the summer opening of eight water parks and pools in Clark County.

Tamie Luckey, 41, said she brought her daughter JayLynn, 4, to the Parkdale Water Park, 3200 Ferndale St., to teach her how to swim. Pregnant with twins, Luckey relaxed in the water, saying she hopes to bring all of her children to the park eventually.

“It gives them something to do and keeps them out of crime,” Luckey said.

James Matthews, manager of the facility, said the opening of the water parks is euphoria for the children who spend a majority of their summer breaks at Clark County pools.

He said the openings also provide places for seniors to relax and remain active throughout the summer.

“It’s a cheap way to entertain,” Matthews said.

With 11 lifeguards patrolling the Paradise Water Park, 4770 Harrison Drive, Robert Hasselbach, 40, said he never questions his children’s safety.

“It’s good quality fun with your kids,” Hasselbach said. “(Kids) are so caught up with video games and television, but they have to have a balance of exercise.”

He describes his 11-year-old daughter, Selena, as a fish because she always likes to be in the water. Selena said she likes to race her brother Christopher, 6, in the pool and play tag.

Water games are popular at Paradise Park, but the biggest appeal seems to be the yellow squiggly water slide.

Ericka Bencomo, 36, said her children love to go on the water slide. They talk about it constantly before visiting the park, she said.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring them if you don’t have a pool at home,” Bencomo said.

Nine-year-old Mathew Fiscarelli said he has a pool at his home near Paradise park but would rather come to the park with his father to enjoy the slide. His father, Paul, 56, said it has become a way for the two of them to spend time together.

Cambridge, Desert Breeze, Paradise, Parkdale and Walnut water parks all opened Saturday and will be open from noon to 6 p.m. all weekend. Laughlin Water Park will be open from noon to 4 p.m.

Overton Pool will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Monday.

Logandale Pool will open its gates from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Monday.
