The burning demand for Burning Man

Burning Man

Andy Barron | Reno Gazette-Journal

Sorry folks, desert’s full. Burning Man has sold out for the first time in its more than 20-year history. This year’s tickets were originally priced from $210 to $360, with proceeds going toward law enforcement, medical supplies and toilets. Now, scalpers are asking up to $1,000 to spend a week with the burners. For Burning Man, it’s a disaster. The weeklong arts festival, held in Northern Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, prides itself on inclusion and demodification. During the fest, participants aren’t even allowed to exchange cash. Now, the questions on everyone’s mind are: Will the ticket sellout hurt the festival’s spirit? What will Burning Man organizers do next year? And how exactly do you run out of room in the middle of the desert?
