Roadwork closing lanes on Rainbow Boulevard, Westcliff Drive

Roadwork

Roadwork will close lanes on Rainbow Boulevard and all of Westcliff Drive near U.S. Highway 95 in Las Vegas at times over the next two weekends.

Rainbow Boulevard will be reduced to one lane in each direction at Westcliff Drive from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, city officials said. It will similarly be restricted next weekend.

In addition, Westcliff will be closed in the area from 9 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, officials said.

Access to U.S. 95 will not be restricted, but motorists should prepare for delays when traveling through the area.

The closures and lane reductions are to allow crews to finish work at the intersection, including repaving Rainbow and installing a pedestrian undercrossing north of the intersection.

The undercrossing is a 200-foot-long arch that is 16 feet wide and 12 feet high at the center to allow pedestrians and bicyclists a way to cross Rainbow Boulevard below the roadway.

The work is part of the $4.9 million second phase of the Bonanza Trail improvement project, which will complete 4.5 miles of the trail between Durango Drive and downtown.

The project also includes a pedestrian bridge at Decatur Boulevard and a new bus turnout at Rainbow and Westcliff.

Funding for the project came from the sale of Bureau of Land Management Act through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.

The contractor on the project is Wells Cargo and CH2M Hill and Kimley-Horney are assisting the city with construction management and design.
