Man wounded in possible gang-related shooting, police say

A man was injured Friday afternoon in a shooting that may have been gang related, Metro Police said.

Rancho High School, a few blocks from the shooting scene, temporarily was put on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Metro Spokesman Bill Cassell said police received a call at 12:09 p.m. that shots had been fired near the 1300 block of 23rd Street. More calls came in shortly thereafter from witnesses who said they heard gunshots and saw people running near the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a young adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Cassell said. The man was taken to University Medical Center, but the extend of his injuries were not known.
