Clark County eliminates 626 vacant positions

Clark County commissioners eliminated 626 vacant employee positions from the county’s records Tuesday.

Since May 2008, the county has reduced its workforce by about 1,400 people through layoffs, voluntary separations and other actions.

Officially eliminating some of those positions won't save the county money since they were already vacant and unbudgeted, but it will make it easier for the county to track and maintain employment records.

Before eliminating the positions, about 16 percent of county positions were vacant, while in better economic times that number would be less than 10 percent, officials said.
