Mobile home fire displaces family in North Las Vegas

Map

A North Las Vegas family was displaced Wednesday after a fire tore through their double-wide mobile home near Carey Avenue and Belmont Street.

North Las Vegas Fire spokesman Cedric Williams said crews responded shortly before 3 p.m. to the fire at 3216 Glendale Ave. and crews found the home to be engulfed in fire. Due to the conditions inside, firefighters were forced to attack the fire from the outside, Williams said.

Six people were in the home at the time of the fire and one was treated for possible smoke inhalation but refused to be taken to the hospital, Williams said.

Police closed Glendale between Wilkinson Way and Belmont Street and evacuated homes in the immediate area. Residents would likely be able to return to their homes during the late afternoon, Williams said.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family. An estimated value of damage done to the home was not immediately available, but the home was considered a total loss.
