Police trying to determine whether remains in desert area are human

Investigators from Metro Police's Criminalistics Bureau are in the southwest valley examining possible human remains discovered by a hiker, officials said.

Metro spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said a hiker called police to report remains he saw several days ago while hiking in the desert area near Starr Hills Avenue and Patores Street.

The hiker led officers to the remains, and police called the Criminalistics Bureau to help identify whether the remains are human, Morgan said.
