Another cold day for Las Vegas

Afternoon temperatures to be 8 to 10 degrees below normal

Don't put away that coat. Another cold day is on the way for Las Vegas, with morning wind chills in the teens and afternoon temperatures climbing to only the low 50s today.

Local gusty afternoon north winds will continue along the Colorado River Valley through the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

High pressure off the West Coast will allow for a warming trend through the weekend, the weather service said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 27 degrees, with a 9 mph south-southwest wind creating a wind chill of 18 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 19 degrees, set in 1972.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 27 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 27 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 22 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 36 degrees by 9 a.m., to 48 degrees by noon and reach a high of 52 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 60 degrees and the record high was 75 degrees, set in 1995.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 47 degrees by 6 p.m., to 41 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 38 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday's morning low will be 36 degrees and Friday's high will climb to 63 degrees, they said.
