Metro Police have determined remains found earlier this week in the southwest valley by a hiker belonged to a human, officials said.
Metro spokesman Jay Rivera said further testing is needed to determine information such as gender and race. It was unclear whether the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police said a hiker called authorities Wednesday to report suspicious remains he discovered several days earlier while hiking in a desert area near Starr Hills Avenue and Patores Street.
The hiker led police to the remains, officials said.
