Warm weekend on the way for Las Vegas

After several days of cold weather, Las Vegas temperatures will head back to the 60s this afternoon.

High pressure off the California coast will continue to allow temperatures to warm across the region through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to climb several degrees above normal Saturday through Monday, reaching into the upper 60s.

The next weather system will move mainly across the eastern portion of the region early next week, resulting in locally gusty north winds, cooler temperatures and a slight chance of showers over the mountains.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 38 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 39 degrees. The record low was 19 degrees, set in 1948.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 38 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 30 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 32 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 44 degrees by 9 a.m., to 56 degrees by noon and reach a high of 61 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said.

The normal high for today's date is 61 degrees and the record high was 76 degrees, set in 1953.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 55 degrees by 6 p.m., to 48 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 46 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 43 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 68 degrees, they said.
