Motorcycle fatality accident

Metro Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that happened Sunday afternoon near Nellis Air Force Base, officials said.

The 24-year-old man driving the motorcycle was ejected and died at the scene, police said. His name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said the accident happened at 4:28 p.m. near the intersection of Craig Road and Lamont Street when a red motorcycle and gray Chevy Trailblazer collided.

Evidence and witness statements indicate the the Trailblazer was traveling west on Craig Road attempting a left, or southbound, turn onto Lamont Street, police said. The motorcycle, which was gong east on Craig Road, was traveling in the left lane of three eastbound lanes, officers said.

Police said the Trailblazer failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn and turned into the path of the approaching motorcycle. The motorcycle driver attempted to avoid the collision by changing lanes and, before striking the Trailblazer, laid the motorcycle on its side, police said.

The driver of the Trailblazer, Sheena MacKlin, 26, Las Vegas, and her passenger, Tonya Mosley, 33, Las Vegas, were not injured, police said.

Police are asking drivers to avoid that area in addition to the intersection of Lamb Boulevard and Bonanza Road, where emergency crews are clearing the scene of a rollover accident.

Snodgrass said a vehicle rolled over and ejected one person in that accident, which happened at 3:43 p.m. The victim was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit with injuries that weren't life-threatening, he said.

Police haven't determined what led to the rollover accident, but officials believe another car was possibly involved. No other injuries were reported.
