Careless smoking is to blame for a northeast valley apartment fire that injured two people Friday morning, fire officials said.
Las Vegas firefighters responded at 4:27 a.m. to a small fire in a unit at the Desert Pines Apartments, 3750 E. Bonanza Road, near the intersection with Pecos Road.
Two people and a dog were evacuated after a mattress caught fire due to careless smoking in bed, fire officials said.
Firefighters doused the mattress and paramedics at the scene treated the adults for minor smoke inhalation. The damage was confined to one apartment, mostly in the bedroom, officials said.
Damage was estimated at $10,000.
