A pedestrian was in critical condition Friday night after being struck by a car near Main Street and Owens Avenue, Metro Police said.

A gold Nissan Sentra struck the woman about 6:10 p.m. as she was walking in the roadway outside a crosswalk. She was taken to University Medical Center, where police said her condition was critical, but stable.

Authorities said the driver of the Nissan stayed with the woman after the accident and won't be charged.

The name of the woman, who was in her mid-50s, wasn't released Friday night.
