Warm and sunny weekend ahead for Las Vegas

Temperatures to soar into low 70s in valley Sunday, Monday

Keep those sunglasses handy. Sunny skies with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s are heading to Las Vegas.

High pressure moving over the area will bring mostly clear skies and a warming trend through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in the valley are expected to climb to 67 degrees today, 69 Saturday, 72 Sunday and 73 degrees for Valentine's Day on Monday, the weather service said.

Winds will be on the light side, although breezy conditions will continue down the Colorado River near Bullhead City, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 38 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 41 degrees. The record low was 22 degrees, set in 1939.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 42 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 34 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 32 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 47 degrees by 9 a.m., to 59 degrees by noon and reach a high of 67 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 62 degrees and the record high was 79 degrees, set in 1971.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 60 degrees by 6 p.m., to 55 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 50 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday's morning low will be 44 degrees and Saturday's high will climb to 69 degrees, they said.
