The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred Saturday afternoon on Interstate 15 near Mesquite.

Two cars collided at mile marker 117, about five miles south of Mesquite, just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Trooper Joseph Fackrell said.

The driver of one vehicle was killed and the other driver was flown to University Medical Center with critical injuries, Fackrell said.

Investigators said it appears a black Lexus was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes of the interstate when it collided with a gray Infiniti.

The name of the Lexus driver, who was killed, wasn't available Saturday evening and will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office. The driver of the Infiniti was a 37-year-old man, Fackrell said.

The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed Saturday evening, but traffic was going around the accident scene on the shoulder of the road, Fackrell said.
