Warm Valentine’s Day for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb to near 73 in valley, say forecasters

A spring-like Valentine's Day is on the way for Las Vegas — skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will climb to nearly 73 degrees by mid afternoon.

The dry and unseasonably warm weather will continue through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A large and complex low pressure system over the Pacific Ocean will affect the region beginning Wednesday, the weather service said.

Strong southwest winds, mountain snow and valley rain are likely Wednesday into early Thursday, especially north of Interstate 40, forecasters said.

High temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees colder Thursday than Monday, they said. The colder damp weather will continue into the weekend as the area of low pressure slowly moves across the region.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 36 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 41 degrees. The record low was 18 degrees, set in 1949.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 34 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 33 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 31 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 54 degrees by 9 a.m., to 66 degrees by noon and reach a high of 73 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 63 degrees and the record high was 78 degrees, set in 1957.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 67 degrees by 6 p.m., to 61 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 57 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 49 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 7 degrees, they said.
