North Las Vegas touts opening of new trail

Trail

North Las Vegas recently opened a new trail along the Upper Las Vegas Wash, just in time for spring.

The new 3.5-mile trail segment from Deer Springs Way to Craig Road is the latest addition to the 30 miles of developed trails in North Las Vegas.

About 24 of those trail miles are located in Aliante and another 5.5 miles run along the Las Vegas Wash and are part of Southern Nevada’s “Neon to Nature” Open Space and Trail System.

“We have a beautiful trail system for all types of outdoor recreation, from biking and skating to dog walking or just a leisurely stroll,” Councilwoman Anita Wood said in a statement. “This is something I feel should not be a best-kept secret. I want residents to know it is out here, ready for them to use and enjoy.”

North Las Vegas plans to add five more miles to the Las Vegas Wash Regional Trail, which would extend it southeast across Interstate 15 all the way to the city’s boundary at Pecos Road and Lake Mead Boulevard.

About half of the city’s trails – some 15 miles – were funded by a $40 million grant from the Bureau of Land Management through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.
