Although there are no signs to warn you, you actually don’t have to fill these meters.

Next time you’re at Town Square, take a look at the parking meters in use. You’ll notice many are flashing zeros. But before you go all good Samaritan and empty your pockets, consider what will happen to the people who’ve run out of minutes: um … nothing? While Town Square’s look like city meters and eat your change just like them, they’re on private property. That means the money collected by Town Square’s meters goes back to Town Square, and the only penalty for not paying up is a “ticket” from security that amounts to a fee-free slap on the wrist. Town Square should note this somewhere on the meters. But until then, those who don’t want to donate to the shopping center can always leave the meter empty—or just park in the meter-free lots to begin with.
