Mostly sunny skies expected today ahead of soggy weekend in Las Vegas

Mostly sunny skies today will greet travelers starting to roll in to Las Vegas for what could be a soggy President's Day weekend.

Temperatures will top out at 61 degrees today, with wind gusts between 11 and 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Skies will turn partly cloudy tonight, forecasters said. The low temperature will hit about 37 degrees.

The weather service said an area of low pressure will slowly move into California on Friday that could bring significant rain to lower elevations and significant snow to higher elevations this weekend in Southern Nevada.

Friday will be partly sunny before a 60 percent chance of rain Friday night in Las Vegas, followed by a 90 percent chance of rain Saturday, forecasters said.

Snow accumulations of up to an inch are possible above 3,000 feet in elevation as the colder air arrives Saturday night and Sunday. A winter storm watch was posted for areas of Southern Nevada above 5,000 feet, where up to 18 inches of snow could fall at higher elevations.
