Highs to hit mid 50s in Las Vegas

Another cold storm to move into area by weekend, forecasters say

It's a good day to get outdoors — partly sunny skies, light winds and highs reaching the mid 50s are on tap for the Washington's Birthday federal holiday.

Generally dry weather, with a slow warming trend, is in store for the Las Vegas area through the middle of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Then a cold storm is expected to drop out of western Canada and into the region, bringing another round of winter weather Friday through the weekend, the weather service said.

The storm that passed through the Las Vegas Valley over the weekend brought between .45 of an inch of rain at Heather and College to .07 of an inch at McCarran International Airport, according to the weather service.

East Henderson got .43 of an inch; Anthem, .34; Centennial Hills, .24; Mountain's Edge South, .24; Summerlin, .2; Nellis Air Force Base, .19; Flamingo and Boulder Highway, .14; North Las Vegas Airport, .14; Henderson Executive Airport, .13; Lake Las Vegas, .12; downtown Las Vegas, .08; and UNLV, .07.

Snowfall in the mountains included 11 inches at Mount Potosi Boy Scout Camp, 8.5 inches at Lee Canyon and 8 inches at Kyle Canyon on Mount Charleston.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 40 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 43 degrees. The record low was 21 degrees, set in 1955.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 39 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 39 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 34 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 44 degrees by 9 a.m., to 53 degrees by noon and reach a high of 56 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 64 degrees and the record high was 80 degrees, set in 1977.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 51 degrees by 6 p.m., to 46 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 43 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 38 degrees and Tuesday's high will climb to 59 degrees, they said.
