Struggling homeowners invited to foreclosure mediation workshops in NLV

For residents facing foreclosure, navigating the mediation process and negotiating a loan modification can be a headache-inducing ordeal.

The city of North Las Vegas plans to offer two free foreclosure mediation classes to help struggling homeowners.

The classes, presented by the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, will cover the basics of the foreclosure process, including the notice of default, notice of trustee sale, how to understand the home loan, loan modifications and how to prepare for foreclosure mediation.

An attorney from the Legal Aid Center will teach the classes. Participants may apply for a pro bono attorney after attending the classes, which are funded by a grant from the Foreclosure Mediation Program of the Nevada Supreme Court.

The classes will be offered on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive, and again on March 21 at the Sun City Aliante Community Center, 7394 Aliante Parkway.

The Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is a private non-profit organization founded in 1958 that provides free community legal services to those in need.

Interested residents may register by calling (702) 386-1070 ext. 161. For more information, visit www.lacsn.org.
